Planning Update
We are continuing to progress our Section 73 planning application, which proposes to update and extend our existing planning permission. We had hoped to submit the revised application in Spring 2026, but this has been pushed back to Summer 2026 as we continue to refine the proposals following feedback received during the consultation.
As part of this, we have updated our concept restoration plan, which gives a sense of how the site would look once quarrying operations have concluded. It confirms our intention to move away from a predominantly grazing-based scheme towards a more varied landscape, and includes a variety of habitats including calcareous grassland, native woodland, and surface water ponds, alongside new public access routes, viewpoints and a bird hide.
Advanced Planting Scheme
We have also developed an advanced planting scheme, updated following the public exhibition. The planting would be established on a phased basis ahead of each phase of quarrying. This involves:
• Additional planting along the eastern boundary of the site near Lang Scar Cottage, using a mix of species including evergreens and shrub understory
• Additional woodland to the south of Phase 6 to provide connectivity with existing woodland on and off-site
• New native hedgerow near the quarry plant and stocking areas
• A wildflower grassland strip alongside the public access corridor
Condition 19 – drainage approval
North Yorkshire Council has approved the details submitted for Condition 19 of our planning permission, which relates to foul and surface water drainage and interceptors on site. This followed consultation with the Lead Local Flood Authority, Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency, and is an important step in demonstrating that our drainage arrangements meet the required environmental standards.
