Operational Update
New Operations Manager - Kevin Meades
Kevin Meades has been appointed as the new Operations Manager at Wensley Quarry. Kevin brings over seven years of experience with Tarmac, during which time he has been part of the management teams at Quarrington, Killerby and Nosterfield Quarries. He will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations at Wensley and will be involved in future liaison group meetings.
With over 30 years in the industry, former Operations Manager Tony Tait has retired. We thank him for all his hard work and wish him a well-earned retirement.
New Wheel Wash Installed
Dust Monitoring
As part of our commitment to managing our environmental impact, we have recently installed dust monitoring equipment at five locations around the quarry. This allows us to measure dust levels in real time and respond quickly if any issues arise.
The monitors will feed into our updated Dust Management Plan, which is being finalised and will be submitted to North Yorkshire Council in due course.
New hedgerow along the public footpath
We have recently planted a new hedgerow along the public footpath adjacent to the site.
As it establishes it will provide additional screening of quarrying operations, the hedgerow will deliver biodiversity benefits and assist with dust management.
Blasting operations
In March, we commissioned Ground Engineering Applied Research Services (GEARS), an independent specialist, to carry out a blasting impact survey to better understand how residents experience blasting at the quarry. 44 residents completed the survey — thank you to everyone who took part! The survey has now closed, but we will be asking participants to input into future surveys as we improve our practices.
GEARS have already completed an independent monitoring review of our February blast and have recommended several new measures, which we are implementing ahead of the next blast which should take place in June. We will share further details about the survey and GEARS' full findings in due course.

We are proud of the relationships we have built with local communities and are always looking for ways to give something back. There are two ways you can apply to us for funding: directly through the quarry, or through the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund.
