Wensley Quarry is a long-established limestone quarry in North Yorkshire, supplying essential limestone for the region’s roads, buildings and infrastructure. The quarry has been an important local employer and part of the area’s industrial landscape since the 1940s.
This website has been created to:
- Explain what we do at Wensley Quarry and why the site is important for North Yorkshire
- Provide clear information on how we manage environmental impacts such as dust, noise and blasting
- Set out our plans for the future of the quarry, including our proposed planning application
- Show how we will restore the site and create new habitats and landscapes over time
- Keep residents and stakeholders updated and make it easier to get in touch with us

Welcome to our public consultation on our proposals for the future of Wensley Quarry. This website provides information about the proposals and gives you an opportunity to provide your feedback. We’re dedicated to engaging fully with residents and stakeholders on our proposals and greatly value your feedback.
Wensley Quarry is a long established limestone quarry located approximately 1km to the north of Preston-under-Scar village in North Yorkshire, near Redmire and Leyburn. We are in the process of preparing a planning application which we intend to submit to North Yorkshire Council.
Our proposals are intended to ensure our operations meet modern standards and to agree detailed working plans so that extraction can continue in the remaining phases. We are also seeking to extend the lifespan of the quarry by 11 years to 2053, to provide sufficient time to extract all the remaining limestone.
We want to understand residents’ views on our proposals prior to submitting the application and so we are running a consultation exercise between Monday 26 January and Monday 9 February 2026.
This will include a public exhibition.
